Pokemon Legends: Arceushas proven to be a big hit in thePokemoncommunity, with many fans enjoying how it breaks away from established franchise traditions and series norms. Besides simply making changes to the main seriesPokemonformula,Pokemon Legends: Arceusalso makes some changes to established lore, which has proven to be slightly more controversial in the community.

For example,Pokemon Legends: Arceusretcons the lore behind Poke Balls. Originally, it was believed that Poke Balls converted Pokemon to energy to store them inside the ball. However,Pokemon Legends: Arceusclaims that Pokemon are shrunk to a small size whenever they’re captured in a Poke Ball. This is rather strange for a number of reasons, but it’s just one example of howPokemon Legends: Arceuschanges what fans know about thePokemonfranchise.

Another change has to do with tall grass. One of the very first things thatPokemonfans learn in theoriginalPokemon RedandBluegamesis that tall grass is a dangerous place to be in the world ofPokemon. It’s in tall grass where Pokemon encounters happen, and a Pokemon trainer without a sufficient team could very well find themselves attacked and defeated by hostile Pokemon.Pokemon Legends: Arceusgoes the exact opposite route, however.

While tall grass is presented as the dangerous place where Pokemon spawn in otherPokemongames,Pokemon Legends: Arceusencourages players to hide in the tall grass to avoid dangerous Pokemon or sneak up on them. This can givePokemon Legends: Arceusplayersan advantage when they get the drop on an unsuspecting Pokemon, as the tall grass hides the Pokemon trainer from view.

This is a relatively small detail, but it still contradicts what was established in earlierPokemongames. However, it should be noted that olderPokemongames had significant hardware limitations thatPokemon Legends: Arceusdoes not have. Perhaps Game Freak would’ve always presentedPokemongames like this had it been possible, but the studio was working with hardware like theoriginal Game Boywhen the franchise was first conceived.

It will be interesting to see if futurePokemongames continue to model themselves afterPokemon Legends: Arceus, or if they revert to more traditional gameplay.Pokemonfans will have to stay tuned on that front, but in the meantime, they can work to finish theirPokedex inPokemon Legends: Arceusand catch all of the Pokemon that are roaming the Hisui region.
