Many players love Fire type Pokemon, and there have been some incredibleFire typesright from Generation 1 (Charizard is, arguably, one of the coolest Pokemon from the Red/Blue era).Pokemon Scarlet & Violetintroduces some interesting new Fire types to the game, some of which are very useful in battle.

Fuecoco

From the adorable Fire starter Fuecoco to the elusive Legendary Pokemon Chi-Yu, there are some excellent Fire types to hunt down inPokemon Scarlet & Violet.

8Fuecoco

Fuecoco is pretty adorable. A decent Fire starterPokemon for Gen 9, Fuecoco has a fun, goofy personality (as established early in the game when he sets an orange on fire). Fuecoco has some pretty good stats for a Starter Pokemon, with higher stats in HP, Defense, and Sp.Attack. It also has some decent moves to unlock, including Incinerate and Flamethrower.

Fuecoco evolves into Crocalor at level 16 and then onto Skeledirge at level 36. While the evolutions are not as universally loved as Fuecoco, they’re still a good choice for players wanting a Fire type to head up their team. Fuecoco’s ability, Blaze, is shared with all Fire-type Starter Pokemon, and it powers up Fire-type moves when Fuecoco’s HP is low.

7Iron Moth

Iron Moth is an imposingParadox Pokemon! A Fire/Poison type, Iron Moth is a Paradox Pokemon, which means players will encounter it later in the game. It’s a nice nod to the Bug/Fire Pokemon Volcarona. There’s an obvious downside to Iron Moth: it’s very weak against Ground attacks, so players will need to keep that in mind.

However, Iron Moth is a strong choice: it has decent Speed and Sp. Attack and the Fire/Poison type combined are excellent. Like allParadox Pokemon, it has the special ability Quark Drive. If Electric Terrain is active, its highest stat is increased by 30%, or a whopping 50% if Speed is the best stat. This means Iron Moth’s Sp. Attack will be even higher. If players want to activate Quark Drive all the time, it’s worth hunting down a Booster Energy for it to hold. They can find thisnew itemin the Great Crater of Paldea.

6Crocalor

Fuecoco’s middle stage is the Sombrero-owning Crocalor. It’s an interesting design choice, and it looks a bit awkward (like a lot of middle-stage evolutions), but Crocalor is a decent choice from a performance perspective. The stats are what players would expect for a mid-stage starter Pokemon: highest in Sp. Attack, Defense, and Attack.

Crocalor can learn Incinerate and Flamethrower, two excellent Fire-type moves. So while he’s not the best-looking Pokemon on this list, at least he’s a good fighter. Crocalor evolves into Skeledirge at Level 36, so players need to get grinding if they want to move Crocalor on to the next stage quickly.

5Charcadet

Charcadet is small and pretty cool-looking. Players can find it roaming around Mesagoza (East), and it’s worth hunting down for its evolution potential. It’s slow and fairly weak, but it has an okay-ish Sp. Attack, and it evolves into either Armarouge or Ceruledge, both of which are awesome.

To evolve Charcadet, players must gather Sinistea Chips or Bronzor Fragments to trade in later in the game. (This depends on whether they have chosen Scarlet or Violet.) Once they receive Auspicious or Malicious Armour, Charcadet will evolve. It’s absolutely worth sticking with Charcadet, gradually training it up to a decent level, because the end result will be a powerful, interesting Pokemon.

4Skeledirge

Having guided Fuecoco from its initial adorable, goofy form, then through its awkward mid-stage, players will be rewarded with Skeledirge from Level 36. A flaming crocodile, Skeledirge is strong, with decent stats in HP, Defense, and Special Attack. It’s slow, but it can deal some hefty damage, so it’s a good choice to head up a Pokemon team in the later stages of the game.

Skeledirge is a Fire and Ghost combo. It’s an interesting mix: some players may prefer to focus on the Fire side when it comes to learning new moves. However, some of the Ghost moves are interesting and might be worth holding onto, including Hex and Shadow Ball.

3Armarouge

Armarouge is a Scarlet exclusive, evolving from Charcadet using a special method: players must collect 10 Bronzor fragments and trade them in at the town of Zapapico. They will receive Auspicious Armour, which will instantly evolve Charcadet. It’s worth the effort almost for looks alone: Armarouge looks awesome.

More importantly, though, Armarouge is an excellent choice for any Pokemon team. It’s Sp. Attack and Defense are high, which means it can withstand long, difficult battles. It’s a Fire-Fairy type, which leaves it weak against several other types, but also allows for some interesting move combinations.

2Ceruledge

Like Armarouge, Ceruledge looks incredible. An imposing, flaming black-and-purple Pokemon, Ceruledge is a Fire/Ghost Type. Players can get Ceruledge by exposing Charcadet to Auspicious Armour (which they can get in Zapapico by trading in 10 Sinistea chips).

Armarouge has a remarkably high stat in Physical Defense, making it a good choice for strong enemies later in the game. It’s weak against five types but strong against others, and it can learn the move Bitter Blade, an incredibly strong Fire-type move with excellent accuracy. It’s one of thestrongest Pokemon in the game, especially when it comes to Defense.

1Chi-Yu

The mysterious Chi-Yu can be found in the Blue Shrine in North Province (Area Two). It’s not at all straightforward to catch: players will need to get up to the Blue Shrine in the first place (a difficult task in itself), then pull all theBlue Ominous Stakesfrom the ground, which are spread across a large area. A Dark/Fire combo, Chi-Yu is an interesting, goldfish-like Legendary Pokemon.

It’s a powerful Pokemon: with a very high Sp. Attack and Sp. Defense. Players looking to complete the Pokedex will want to get hold of Chi-Yu anyway, but it’s appealing for other reasons too. The Dark/Fire combo is an interesting one to use in battle, and it’s strong, making it a great late addition to any team.
