As part of the Paradox Rift promo, the officialPokemonYouTube channel uploaded anAmerican Psychoparody to reveal the different card variants ofPokemonScarlet and Violettrainer Larry. The 44-second video showed Marshtomp playing the role of Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) as it showed off its regular Larry card, followed by Quagsire flaunting the Larry card’s parallel foil variant. Meanwhile, Slowpoke played Paul Allen’s role (Jared Leto) as it put down the Larry ultra-rare card, which seemed to stress Marshtomp out.
The entertainingPokemon TCGvideo was referencingAmerican Psycho’s business card scene, where Bateman and his colleagues compare calling cards. What makes the scene so iconic was the fact that all the cards looked similar to viewers, but the businessmen insisted that one was better than the other. The scene ends with Bateman looking shocked and defeated because of Allen’s card. By emphasizing the different finishes of the Larry cards and having Pokemon plushies recreate the scene,Pokemon TCGmanaged to make the scene its own.
Many fans expressed their amusement thatPokemonparodiedAmerican Psycho, which isn’t a family-friendly movie, to promote its Paradox Rift cards. Some also said the marketing team deserved a raise for pulling off a creative and entertaining video. The franchise has been on a roll when it comes to adorable and funny videos on its social media platforms, but it’s also made some faux pas, includingaccidentally uploading a vulgarPokemonvideoon its TikTok page.
Apart from Paradox Rift,Pokemonalso recently worked on a limited-edition Van Gogh Museum-inspired “Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat” promo card. This was revealed as part ofPokemon’s collaboration with the renowned museum in Amsterdam, which features a themed exhibit that will run until 2024.
