Pre-orders are now open for thePS VR2for gamers in select regions. With this latest iteration of PlayStation VR set to release in February, different bundles and accessories for the VR headset have been made available for pre-order alongside launch titles.
PS VR2is the follow-up to the original PSVR released in 2016 shortly before the launch of the PS4 Pro, a higher-end model of the PS4 with 4K support. The original PSVR did not require a PS4 Pro to be used though some games had support for the PS4 Pro even though the PSVR did not output at 4K. The upcoming PS VR2 will require users to own a PS5 to use it.

Outside these two options, Sony is also offering a charging stand for the PS VR2 Sense controllers for players who would rather not charge them through the console’s USB ports. Launch support for the PS VR2 will includeSwordsman VR,Cities VR: Enhanced Edition, and VR versions of pre-existing games such asNo Man’s Sky. The VR mode forNo Man’s Skywas previously available for PSVR in 2019. The upcoming version of the PS VR2 is expected to support the new hardware’s technology such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
One major factor affecting the potential sales success of the PS VR2 is the scarcity of PS5 consoles, something that continues to affect the console over two years since its release. Ongoing supply chain issues have made it more difficult for consumers looking to buy the system. It can be inferred that Sony requiring players to register for pre-orders is meant as amethod of deterring scalpers.
This issue is exacerbated for the PS VR2 as Sony is the current leader in the console market when it comes to providing experiences with VR. While PC players have multiple options for VR such as the Valve Index and Meta Quest 2, the PS5 remains the only current generation console with proprietary VR support. Despite this, Sony appears to have prepared for the launch by planning to havetwo million PS VR2 headsets availablefor purchase by March 2023. With pre-orders open and the release date quickly approaching, PS5 owners will not have to wait too much longer to experience PS VR2.
