Here are our predictions of what Sony will (and won’t) have at the rumored PS5 August event.

No God of War 2

Prior to the PS5 game showcase event in June, rumors indicated that Sony planned on unveilingGod of War 2at the show. However, the PS5 games showcase came and went with no sign of the game. Rumormongers then pointed to the possible PS5 event in August as when Sony will show offGod of War 2for PS5, with claims that the game would boast photo-realistic graphics to showcase the new console’s full potential, and also be Sony’s big holiday game for 2021.

However,God of Wargame director Cory Barlogpretty quickly shut down those rumors. While not addressing the rumors directly, Barlog shared a tweet that seems to dismiss them. Usually game developers don’t address rumors at all, so for one to deny them is pretty damning evidence that they aren’t based in reality. Of course,God of War 2will happen eventually, but fans shouldn’t get their hopes up that they will see it next month or get to play it next year.

Jak and Daxter

Another persistent rumor about the PS5’s games lineup is that Sony is reviving one of its classic franchises for the console’s launch.PS5 architect Mark Cernyis rumored to be involved in the mystery game’s development, and considering his clear passion for platformers, the franchise that seems to make the most sense for a comeback isJak and Daxter. According to the rumors, Sony plans on remastering the original threeJak and Daxtergames for the PS5’s launch, which would give the launch lineup a much-needed boost.

At the time of this writing, the list of first-party Sony games that will be available day one is pretty bare, with one of the only ones beingSpider-Man: Miles Morales, though even that has yet to be confirmed. Perhaps Sony is confident thatSpider-Man: Miles Moralesis all that the PS5 will need at launch, but it wouldn’t be surprising for it to reveal more first-party exclusives the next time that it decides to unveil more PS5 games.

Resident Evil 8

ReputableResident Evilfranchise leaker AestheticGamer has suggested that Capcom will be revealing anewResident Evil 8trailerat some point in August. Since Sony is the one that initially revealedResident Evil 8to the masses at its PS5 event, it stands to reason that it could very well showcase the game again at the rumored PS5 event in August.

AestheticGamer actually said that a newResident Evil 8trailer will be revealed along with “other things” but stopped short of detailing what exactly those “other things” may be. A Capcom survey has hinted that there will be aResident Evil 8demo, so maybe fans will get more information on that. Of course, withResident Evil 8skipping current-gen consoles for PS5 and Xbox Series X, one has to imagine that the demo won’t be available until some time after the new consoles launch.

Silent Hill

Reputable leakers and industry insiders have indicated that Sony and Konami have been collaborating on aSilent Hillreboot for PS5. Nothing concrete has been shown yet, but the sources for this information have proven inside-knowledge of the industry, and they seem convinced that the game will be revealed by the end of the year. There were actually rumors going into the PS5 games showcase event that Sony was going to show theSilent HillPS5 exclusivethen, but plans evidently changed for unknown reasons.

Price and Release Date

Sony still plans on launching the PlayStation 5 by the end of the year, yet fans still don’t know how much the new console will cost or when it will actually be available. It’s quite possible that Sony will use the rumored August event to finally reveal the PS5 price and release date, as well as let fans know exactly when they will be able to pre-order the console. After all, Sony used the June event to reveal thePS5 console designitself, so really the only things left to know about it are how much it will cost and when it will launch.

While Sony itself has yet to reveal the PS5 price and release date, there are some rumors floating around about what fans can expect. Many analysts seem to think that thePS5 pricewill be within the $400-$500 range, and the general consensus seems to be that the new console will be available at some point in November. This would be in line with the PS4 and PS3 launches, but fans will just have to hang tight for more information to be sure.
