As one of the most popular team-based first-person shooters of the last console generation,Rainbow Six Siegehas seen plenty of unique and interesting characters added to the game since its release in 2015. The game boasts a roster of over fifty Operators for players to choose from, with each character having their own specialties whether on the attacking ordefending side of a game. With the game preparing to enter its seventh year, Ubisoft recently confirmed the newest Operator coming to the game as a part of ‘Operation Demon Veil’.

Much like many other ongoing games,Rainbow Six Siegeoften releases new Operators as part of the festivities surrounding a new competitive season of the popular shooter. Recent seasons have seen the game experimenting with plenty of fresh ideas, such as Thorn’s sticky grenade-like Razorbloom Shells and Osa’s Talon-8 Clear Shield that she can carry to defend herself or set up to protect her allies. Now, Operation Demon Veil’s inclusion of the Operator Azami will bring a new mechanic toRainbow Six Siegethat will be completely new to the game.

Rainbow Six Siegeofficially revealed Azami as the featured character of Operation Demon Veil, a Japanese defender set to join the game when the event launches on February 22. While Azami’s design (which is inspired by Japanese private bodyguards) prominently features kunai, she does not use them to attack but rather to set up her unique gadget, the ‘Kiba Barrier’. Azami’s Kiba Barrier isa first forRainbow Six Siege, as the shield protects not from attacks in front of Azami, but rather creates a shield that can block breaches through floors and ceilings.

Azami will feature the 9x19VSN submachine gun and the ACS12 shotgun as her primary weapons of choice, wielding the D-50 Desert Eagle as her lone sidearm alongside Barbed Wire and Impact Grenades as her secondary gadgets. The update will feature the first new map added to the game since Fortress in December 2018, as well as the addition of anew permanent game modethrough Team Deathmatch, which sees teams battling to be the first to score 75 kills.

Rainbow Six Siegehas seen plenty of major changes coming into the new year, ranging from new releases to old faces parting ways with the game. January saw not only the launch of the game’s co-op spinoff,Rainbow Six Extraction, but also saw thedeparture ofSiege’s creative director Leroy Athanassoff, who had been a major part of theRainbow Six Siegedevelopment team since 2016. With long-time art director Alexander Karpazis now at the helm and the game exploring new ideas with Azami’s vertical barriers, the future looks bright forRainbow Six Siege.
