Whether intentional or not, one of Rockstar Games' most beloved staples is stocking itsrealistic open-world games likeGrand Theft Autoto the brim with entertaining or down-right weird events for players to stumble upon. Fortunately,Red Dead Redemption 2is no stranger to these unscripted exceptional experiences either. With that said, this recent finding sure makes up to be one of the game’s strangest sightings.

Players can see some pretty crazy things during their journeys across the American frontier that are certain to prove that the west was truly wild during 1899. This is thanks to the fact that there are endless references, oddities, andoutlandish encounters inRed Dead Redemption 2for players to discover in the varying regions that make up the map. However, what makes some unbelievable events much more interesting than others is when they happen by pure coincidence or because of a glitch, as it does a great deal in making the experience more unique for the player.

Now, Reddit user Kaitlynrabbit has found evidence to certify that the action-adventure Western still has some peculiar enigmas up its sleeve yet to be seen, despite being over three years old. Soon after the clip was posted, Kaitlynrabbit’s post went viral with over 1000 upvotes, as many fans were left both amused and confused atanother freaky moment inRed Dead Redemption 2. While some users cracked jokes in the replies, most agree that the hand-held mobile recording of the sighting combined with the game’s realistic graphical style transforms the scene into something genuinely hair-raising.

The short five-second clip starts with a closeup of an in-game corpse lying on his back in the mud. Although this is a rather gruesome sighting on its own, players are quick to find that dead bodies are a dime a dozen. Mostly because of howlawlessRed Dead Redemption 2’sworld can be, as desperados often resort to murder and have very little qualms about doing so. But what shocked most viewers is when a turkey vulture suddenly appeared underneath the corpse, alive and flapping its wings.

The vulture can usually be found in sporadic locations throughout much of thecentral regions ofRed Dead Redemption 2, though its highest population is in New Austin, specifically the areas in and around Armadillo in Cholla Springs. Having said that, there are other methods to find a vulture, and it entails waiting around a deceased corpse. For the uninitiated, unlike the bulk of other creatures inRDR2, this bird of prey scavenges on carrion, which means it needs to eat flesh to sustain nutrition.

With this knowledge in mind, one possibility is that the turkey vulture tried to spawn around the body to pick it apart, but a luckless error caused to it be trapped under the poor NPC. Another option could be that the body fell on the bird during combat, causing it to be trapped. Nevertheless, despite these oddities being unintentional on the developer’s part, they sure make for some memorable moments forRed Dead Redemption 2players that stick around long after putting the controller down.

Red Dead Redemption 2is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
