Red Dead Redemption 2is a game that has proven that it has high replayability and that the fans continue to love 5 years after its initial release. It combines many things that gamers hold dear: a great main character that people care about, a magnificent story that has a lot of ups and downs, stunning graphics, and lots of things to do around the map.

But that’s not all that makesRed Dead Redemption 2a hit. Allthe characters in this gameare made with the same care that the main character was made with, giving them a lot of traits that seem to be missing from NPCs in other games. That doesn’t mean that all of them are equal - many appear to be underrated, and the fans have long been baffled as to why.
7Sadie Adler
Unlike Charles who can fade in the background, Sadie is very much present and a character that people usually remember. Unfortunately, the players don’t get to spend as much time as they want with Sadie, since the interactions between her and Arthur are minimal, and they don’t reveal as much about her backstory as fans want to learn.

Sadie used to live with her husband Jake, until the O’Driscoll Boys robbed them and killed Jake. The beginning of her introduction with the gang is quite… heated (her house burns down), but eventually Sadie goes back to camp with them and becomes a member of the gang, sworn to take revengeon the O’Dricscolls.
6Charles Smith
He is one of the game characters that is important for hardcore fans, but for casual gamers, he is almost invisible. Charles is part of the gang, although he started being a part of it only a couple of months before the events at the start of the game. Being half African and half Native American, Charles had to endure seeing his family destroyed by the US Army and learn to survive independently.
InRed Dead Redemption 2, Charles is part of many different chapters, and while in some of them, he is just another face ofthe Van der Linde gang, in some others he plays a super important role and becomes quite close with Arthur. The game implies that he might have had a good ending, which is a relief, but it would be nice to see more of Charles and do more things with him.

5Reverend Swanson
He might have been a reverend and still called that, but his occupation as a clergyman ended before the events at the beginning ofRed Dead Redemption 2. Swanson is quite the character, having left his previous life because he couldn’t resist the pleasures of sex and alcohol, which eventually led him to lose his faith and his family.

Swanson has quite a character arc in the game, since he starts as a drunk and a drug addict, but slowly gets sober anddecides to turn his life around. It’s really a shame that the player doesn’t get to interact with him a lot and get a better feeling of his journey.
4Javier Escuella
The player meets Javier very early in the game, and they are one of the first people that they partner in a mission. What is very interesting about Javier, is his background, especially since he is a recurring character in theRed Deadseries. InRed Dead Redemption 2, Javier is part of 6 chapters plus the epilogue, and in most of them, he plays quite an important role.
He seems to be there whenever someone from the gang needs help, and he is part of a lot of rescue missions as well as the criminal activity of the gang. While he is friendly with Arthur (and the player also has the choice to make their relationship even better with some choices), becauseJavier is very loyal to Dutch, even when Arthur questions him, the friendship between them starts to fade.

3John Marston
John is also one of the recurring characters in theRed Deadseries, and even though he is one of the protagonists ofRed Dead Redemption, inRead Dead Redemption 2, his role is not as important – as it is supposed to be. He does appear in many chapters and is quite often in a conversation with Arthur, but his role in the gang is… lacking, to say the least.

Marston appears carelessand spends the Colter Chapter recovering from his injuries. His actions in the other chapters though are continuing in the same manner, with him not exactly becoming the man he is supposed to be, up until the end, and with decisions that are heavily based on what Arthur chooses for him.
2Uncle
Almost every family has a weird uncle, and the family of Red Dead Redemption 2 is no exception. Uncle has a shady and unclear past, with very few details truly known about his life before he joined the Van der Linde gang. He supported that he was worshiped like a god in Congo, but no one seems to believe him.
Because Uncle is an alcoholic and not really up for a lot, his role in the gang is mostly as“the fool” of the party, and other people seem to enjoy his crazy stories and make fun of him for doing almost nothing.

1Lenny Summers
Both of Lenny’s parents were slaves, which made him angry and strong from a very young age, and constantly on the run. He is present in a lot of chapters as well, and as a member of a gang, he appears loyal, fun, and ready to do whatever it takes to get what he wants, even if sometimes that is not as well-planned as it should be.
Unfortunately, Lenny diesduring the Saint-Denis bank robbery, which is an unfair ending for a character that the players feel they have just started to get to know better.
