Summary

Fans of the originalRed Dead Redemptionare calling for one underrated feature of the game’s bounty system to return in future iterations of the series. While players cancapture other bounties inRed Dead Redemption, there’s undoubtedly plenty of fun to be had for players in racking up a bounty of their own, and this feature improves that.

The originalRed Dead Redemptionremains one of thebest Western games of all time, with it and its sequel often used as the benchmark for what a game in this genre should strive to be. Although they’re Western games, at their core, they’re both Rockstar titles, thriving when the player is encouraged to create chaos within their expansive worlds. Because of this, the systems in place should complement that chaos, and there’s one feature that the originalRed Dead Redemptiongot right which its sequel left out.

The clip posted by Redditor ThePhenomenalOne100 shows off the feature, which lists player crimes whenever a bounty is paid off. This particular footage shows off a bounty that includes 93 counts of vandalism, 108 counts of horse slaughter, as well as a staggering 314 counts of murdering an officer of the law, among other crimes. While the feature was present inRed Dead Redemption, it was notably missing from the sequel. However, it’s such a small feature that really hits home just how many crimes a player can commit, and allows them to put a solid number to their chaotic ventures.

While most were in agreement, some players in the thread put forward a compelling argument against the feature returning. One player pointed out that seeing hundreds of murder charges be wiped away as if they never happened was massively unrealistic, and immersion-breaking.Immersion is one of the big features ofRed Dead Redemption 2, so it’s understandable why something that has the potential to remove players from the experience at times was marked for removal in the sequel.

Ultimately, the return of this feature will depend on the potentialdirection that Rockstar decides to takeRed Dead Redemption 3. Everyone is going to have their own opinion, especially given the commitment to immersion withRed Dead Redemption 2put some players off the title, while for others it was the perfect next step for the series. Hopefully, Rockstar can strike a balance that leaves everyone happy, and that approach may include the return of bounty crime lists.
