There are several large and small maps inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, each designed for a specific purpose, game mode, or battle. Some of theModern Warfaremaps are based on scenes from the campaign itself while others are simply meant for domination and team deathmatch game modes.
The design and purpose of the map have a major influence on whether players enjoy it. Larger maps are great for large scale conflicts, but struggle when it comes to smaller game modes. Although the battle might have been epic in the campaign, a map might be lackluster compared to others. Somemaps are added to the gamepurely for nostalgia reasons. A poll on Reddit seeks to understand what map fans consider to be the worst.

Do note that the poll does not include Barakett Promenade, as most members of the community dislike it. With several options listed, the poll is seeking to know what theworst map inModern Warfareis, with Aniyah Palace currently at the top. Although there are still two days before this poll ends, the space between Aniyah Palace, Piccadilly, and the rest of the poll is worth an early discussion.
Out of the 373 votes at the time of this article, the Palace has 140 of them. A majority of the game’s community hates Aniyah Palace, and it doesn’t take a poll to know that. Multiple discussions, Tweets, and YouTubers have covered the Palace and described why it is such apainful map to play on.
The core reason is the sheer size of it. Players spend most of their time navigating the map as opposed to engaging other players. Almost every spawn comes with up to two minutes of running around only to get shot from a sharp corner or a camping player. This problem of size is made worse in 10v10 deathmatch modes.
Although the map worked well in Special Ops, as a multiplayer map it falls short of many others. The community response has deemed the map “worst map in COD history,” and even the cropped down small version is seen with disdain. Withnew maps being added in every season, Infinity Ward might want to shy away from extremely large areas.
There were early reports that claimed that Aniyah Palace was originally designed for Ground War, although there is not much validity to this claim. However, the size of the map does make some fans wonder. No matter the case, one thing that most fans agree on is that Aniyah Palace is way too big.
