In a field that is as crowded as the horror genre, theResident Evilseries has managed to stand out and endure for decades thanks to a cast of classic characters, unforgettable villains, and a thrilling atmosphere. The games have veered into interesting directions in an attempt to keep gameplay engaging for series newcomers and veterans. This is the case forResident Evil 4, a game that strolls away from the slow-boiling horror of its predecessors and instead cranks up the action elements.
In recent years, Capcom has had great commercial and critical success with their remakes of earlyResident Evilgames. This is especially true ofResident Evil 2’s remake which takes the 1998 game and masterfully adapts to modern gaming. For a while, rumors have been bubbling that the nextResident Eviltitle to get a remake beingResident Evil 4. Although Capcom has yet to confirm these rumors, there are many leaks and clues that all but confirm that the remake is in the works.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Leaks
There have been a few leaks that suggest that aResident Evil 4remake is on the way. One of the leaks comes from DuskGolem, a trusted source of information in theResident Evilcommunity. According to DuskGolem, the remake’s codename is “Chainsaw.” Capcom is allegedly taking criticisms ofResident Evil 3’s remake onboard while working onResident Evil 4. On Twitter, DuskGolem states that it is unlikely that the remake will be an exclusive title due to how big of a game it is.
In November 2020, Capcom was hacked, which resulted in many of the company’s internal plans being leaked to the public. Information regarding several games was prematurely revealed, including plans to release titlessuch asDragon’s Dogma 2andStreet Fighter 6in 2022. According to the leaks, a remake ofResident Evil 4is in the works and is set to release in late 2022.

Capcom is not the only companythat has had to deal with data breaches. In September 2021, a developer managed to access a list of hundreds of games in Nvidia GeForce Now’s database. While some of the games were already released, a few games listed were unreleased and unannounced.
Among the unreleased PC games listed isGhost of Tsushima,Monster Hunter 6, and aResident Evil 4remake. Responding to the leaked list, Nvidia claimed that the games named are both “released and/or speculative titles, used only for internal tracking and testing.” Nevertheless, since the leaks, some of the games have gone on to be confirmed, including aGod of WarPC port and a remaster of theGrand Theft Autotrilogy.
Yet anotherResident Evil 4remake leak has also come from D.C. Douglas who claims he is the voice actor forAlbert Wesker inResident Evil 4’s remake. He also shared concept art of how Wesker will appear in the remake. Since then, Douglas has deleted his Twitter account.
Resident Evil 4 Remake Clues From Capcom
Some supposed hints from Capcom also suggest that aResident Evil 4remake is on the way. On August 22, Capcom sent out a cryptic tweet with the message “4. Itchy. Tasty.” Fans ofResident Evilwill recognize that the line comes from the first game when a character describes their own mutation after being exposed to the T-Virus. While this may be Capcom teasing players andhinting at aResident Evil 4remake, it is also likely that the tweet is simply a nod to an iconic phrase.
Another hint may have come from the PlayStation Showcase which took place in September 2021. The show opened up with a live-action trailer showcasing many of PlayStation’s most iconic franchises. Gamers with keen eyes have noticed many hints and teases forfuture PlayStation projects in the trailer. For instance, at roughly 34 seconds in, posters depictHorizon Zero Dawn’s Aloy in aFall Guyscostume. Since then, it has been announced that Aloy is coming toFall Guys.
The trailer also features what appears to be the symbolResident Evil 4uses for the Las Plagas parasite. While this is far from confirmation of the rumoredResident Evil 4remake, that has not stopped gamers from speculating that Capcom may be looking to bring the game to current generation consoles and gaming systems.
Capcom has yet to confirm the existence of theResident Evil 4remake. However, with all the clues and leaks that have appeared, it seems to be inevitable that it will come at some point. The originalResident Evil 4is one of the bestselling titlesin theResident Evilseries. A well-made remake would be a treat for gamers and an almost failproof investment for Capcom.
