Capcom’sResident EvilShowcase on October 20 gave fans a new trailer reveal for theShadows of RoseDLC, which gave a glimpse of a host of mutated creatures that will push Rose to her limits. In a PlayStation Blog post, Tsuyoshi Kanda, Producer ofResident Evil Village, unveiled a number of new promotional images to compliment the trailer that give a better look at some of the monsters that lurk in the consciousness of the Megamycete. Tall, grotesque humanoids who bear a resemblance toResident Evil 7’s Molded have been revealed as “Face Eaters” who steal the life from other living beings, and Rose can be seen facing off against a plant-esque monster that looks to have been inspired by Plant 43 encountered inResident Evil 2 Remake.
In additional promotional images, dark and gruesome environments are on show along with a multi-faced, mutated creature grimacing in pain and wrapped in barbed wire. The usually friendly merchant, The Duke, has hadan evil makeover in a Marquis maskflanked by grotesque creatures. Kanda went on to state that, “This Realm is a world where many traps and monstrosities lurk. However, Rose can only carry a handgun, a little bit of ammo, and first aid med.” which suggests players will have to utilize the careful resource management strategies of earlier games to survive.
The monsters ofResident Evilhave been a high point for fans of the franchise, with iconic creatures such as Lickers, Crimson heads, Tyrant variants, and the mutated stages ofWilliam Birkin’s G abominationpushing the limits of body horror creativity. Originality in enemy design seemed a little lacking in the base monsters ofResident Evil 7andVillagewhen compared to some of the more beloved creatures of the franchise. Fortunately, from these images it seems fans may be in for a treat when Shadows of Rose is released.
