Ridley Scott is one of those people who is behind moviesof just about every genre. He’s done science fiction, he’s done dramatic films, and he’s done period pieces. Now it looks like he’s just about ready to return to one period, as he recently said the script for the sequel toDreamworks’Gladiatoris basically done.

The famed director has been quite busy over the last few years with several movies releasing in a short period of time. The Last Duelhas had critical successandHouse of Gucciis getting ready to officially hit the silver screen. While the production forGladiator 2isn’t anywhere close to starting, Scott said he and his writers have a solid path to getting the script for the sequel to theDreamworksfilm finished.

Speaking to Deadline, Scott said the script has actually already been written. However, he followed that up with language that made it sound as if it hasn’t been completely finalized, adding that he and his team have a “good footprint” and a good, logical place to go. It’s possible that one of the reasonstheAliendirectorhasn’t made it more clear thatGladiator 2is ready to move on to the next step is because he’s apparently wanting to be very careful with it.

He added that someone can’t just do anotherGladiatormovie. There needs to be a certain path that has to be followed. He then added that there was enough leftover fromthe Russell Crowe epicthat they can indeed pick up and continue that story in a new direction.

Earlier, it was established thattheRaised by Wolvesdirectoris going to haveGladiator 2tell the story of Lucius, the young ruler who was actually saved by Maximum killing Commodus. Beyond that, there isn’t a great deal known about where the story is going to go. Crowe’s character, of course, died near the end of the original film, so it will certainly have a new character to focus on

While Scott is promising thatGladiator 2is one of the movies that is heading towards the finish line, it’s not known what kind of timeline the director is expecting at this point. The studio hasn’t really come close to saying when movie-going audiences can expect to see it. For that matter, even if the script is ready to go, it doesn’t appear the movie has started filling its cast.
