In spite of some recent industry rumblings to the contrary, a newly emerged report claims that the rumored remake ofMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eaterwon’t be a PlayStation exclusive. This claim surfaced shortly after one industry insidersuggested that theMetal Gear Solidseries' revival is imminent.Reports about exclusivity deals between Konami and Sony have been circulating online for several years by now. The latest such claim emerged earlier in May, suggesting that the rumoredMetal Gear Solid 3remake is not only real but also a PlayStation exclusive.RELATED:Hogwarts Legacy Composer Teases Metal Gear Solid Project, But It’s Not What You ThinkA newly surfaced report from Insider Gaming alleges that is not the case, citing unnamed sources who believe theMetal Gear Solid 3remake will also be releasing on both PC and the Xbox Series X/S. The PC version of the game is said to be destined for Steam, according to the same report. While the jury is obviously still out as to the veracity of these claims, the outlet behind them has a decent track record with scoops, having most recentlycorrectly predicted the release date ofArmored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.

Taking this newly emerged report at face value still doesn’t discount the possibility that theMetal Gear Solid 3remake could be a timed PlayStation exclusive. Even if that doesn’t come to pass and the game ends up being a same-day multi-platform release, most industry insiders who recently chimed in on the matter seem to agree that theMetal Gear Solid 3remake will be unveiled at the next PlayStation Showcase. Sony’s upcoming event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, starting at 1pm PST.

Apart from theMGS3remake rumors, a few recent reports also suggested that Konami might end up re-releasing at least one otherMetal Gear Solidgame in the near future. The PS1 original is the likeliest candidate for a remaster, at least from the standpoint of technical feasibility. A significant portion of the fandom would still rather seeMetal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriotsescape its PS3 exclusivity, but that might be a tough ask right now.

All of that could change if the rumors of aMetal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eatercome true and the game ends up being a commercial success. Not least because such a turn of events might finally convince Konami to commit resources to remakingMGS4for modern platforms. According to past reports, theMGS3remake is targeting a 2024 release.
