Even the most devotedSonic the Hedgehogfans tend to agree the speedy blue rodent has had some rocky games after the Genesis days, and while there is some disagreement about what theworst of theSonicgamesare, most agree thatSonic Colorsis one of the better entries in recent memory. The game is over ten years old now, but one video game company may have let it slip that aSonic Colorsremaster is coming.

Released in 2010 exclusively for the Nintendo Wii (with an alternate version for the Nintendo DS),Sonic Colorssaw the blue blur foiling Dr. Eggman’s plans in a giant amusement park. Perhaps the most self-aware and fourth-wall breakingSonic the Hedgehoggame to date,Colorswas praised by critics and audiences alike for its tight controls, smart story, and stunning visuals.

Given the fact the game was a Wii exclusive, and considering its excellent reputation,Sonic Colorsis often brought up when conversations turn to the topic ofwhichSonicgames need a remaster. Now, according to credits listed on the official website of iksample, a team that works on audio design and localization for video games and film, fans might be getting their wish. Written in the Queen’s English on its website, under projects iksample worked on in 2020, “Sonic Colours” is listed.

However, before fans get too excited there are a few caveats of which to be aware, namely that there is speculation iksample might simply have listed the wrong game by mistake. Backing this theory up is the fact iksample states it worked on the game in 2020. Games often take years to complete, but it’s odd that the world has heard no news of aSonic Colorsremaster from Sega or any other source so long after the game was localized for different regions. Of course,Colorsis a fairlylong game bySonicstandards, so it’s possible a remaster is still in development and Sega merely isn’t ready to reveal any details.

The other caveat about iksample’s involvement in a possibleSonic Colorsremaster is that on the company’s “about” pageSonic Colorsis mentioned again, only the image used is artwork fromSonic Boom, a 2014 Wii U title that wasn’t as well-received asColors. However, 2021 does mark the hedgehog’s 30th anniversary, and while everything fromSonicfigurines to30th-anniversarySoniccomic bookshave been announced, Sega has been extremely tight-lipped when it comes to news about a newSonicvideo game.

Nintendo releasedremasters of several classicMariogamesfor the plumber’s 35th anniversary, so it’s possible Sega’s planning a similar move and theSonic Colorsremaster is a part of the big plan. The blue blur officially turns 30 on June 23, so if theSonic Colorsremaster is indeed real, it will likely be officially announced around that date.
