Summary

Matthew Lillard, the longtime voice of Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, is hinting that a newScooby-Dooproject is in development, and it isn’t a movie or cartoon. Lillard first played Mystery Inc.’s resident comic relief figure in the live-actionScooby-Doofilms of the early 2000s, and he would go on to voice Shaggy in virtually all animatedScooby-Doomedia after the late Casey Kasem retired from acting in 2009.

This includes numerousScooby-Doovideo games and crossover appearances, with Matthew Lillard’s most recent interactive Shaggy performance being in theWarner Bros. platforming brawlerMultiVersus. Even before Lillard took up the role of Scooby’s best friend on a full-time basis, the lovable canine with a hunger for mystery had several licensed video games under his collar stretching back to the days of Mattel’s Intellevision. However, most of these titles were poorly regarded and easily forgotten, with only a handful like 2002’sScooby-Doo: Night of 100 Frightsgaining cult status among fans.

Earlier this week,Shaggy actor Matthew Lillardaddressed a previous claim of a newScooby-Dooproject on Instagram, revealing that it is not a movie or cartoon. While he didn’t give any specifics about what it is, he noted that fans would be needed to “playtest it” and offered a link to a website where people can register to be the first to try out this new “Scooby-Dooexperience” in his Instagram bio. The webpage in question, which mentions something called “Scooby-Doo Character Studio,” merely asks the user for their email address, whether they would be interested in testing the “beta experience,” and if they live in the United States.

Details about when this beta test will take place have also been left up in the air, leaving fans to question exactly what this supposed “Scooby-Dooexperience” will be. The use of playtesters seems to imply that it will be a video game, but the word is still out about it being a remake of an older title likeScooby-Doo: Night of 100 Frightsor a brand-new title altogether. AlicensedLEGO Scooby-Dootitleis also among the possibilities of this newly-confirmed project.
