After more than 11 years, manySkyrimfans have probably grown tired of hearing the same lines from the guards, especially those in Whiterun, but someone has modded the game to make them say some pretty weird things. Givenhow extensive the lore is in theElder Scrollsseries, there is so much for NPCs to talk about, be it current affairs or things that have happened in this fictional universe’s past. However, there are still limits to the number of conversations that can take place, even in this modern era of gaming.

WithSkyrimfeaturing many cities and NPCs, players are constantly hearing talk among the locals, some of which is directly related to the Dragonborn themselves. However, over time, gamers hear the same things being repeated over and over again. This can have a bit of an effect on immersion, even if some lines of dialog are considered classics now, but there are means to inject something a little different into the daily chit chat.

As an example, Reddit user Alirue recently posted a TikTok video showing the player running around inSkyrim, specifically the city of Whiterun. Some text on the clip says that the game has been modded to feature “AI deep fake voices” and gives the guards some new lines. When approached, these trained protectors will utter some bizarre things, some of which border on conspiracy. For example, a couple of guards talk about the possibility of there being fluoride in the mead, and there’s also a reference to George Orwell’s1984, only it’s phrased as “year 84 of the 19th era.” One guard talks about how another is spouting problematic statements.

In this day and age, it’s not too unusual for games likeSkyrimto be modded using AI. Advances in technology make it possible to tweak the experience in a way that adds realistic content, in this case voices. The example that Alirue has shown is noteworthy, as the guards do sound similar to the vanilla game, but it’s the choice of what they say that makes this modification quite unusual.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that Alirue has made the mod publicly available, but for those who want to enhance theirElder Scrollsexperience, there are manyhighly rated mods forSkyrim. Whether it’s improving the visuals or user AI, adding custom quests, fixing bugs, or just making NPCs say some weird things, there’s something out there for anyone. It will also be interesting to see how else the game can be altered using artificial intelligence.
