A new mod forSkyrimhas been released that overhauls the stealth aspects of the epic 2011 RPG and presents much more of a challenge for those who like playing as a sneaky character.Stealth builds inThe Elder Scrolls 5are very popular among the community as fans put their experience points into being able to creep around silently, disappear into the shadows, snipe enemies from a distance without being detected, and just generally get in and out of somewhere as quietly as possible.

Of course, there aremany ways to playSkyrim, be it as a brutish warrior wielding a powerful axe, an aggressive mage who can rain down all manner of spells on their foes, or as someone who enjoys frolicking through nature and making potions. Bethesda is known for giving players a lot of options when it comes to losing themselves in Tamriel, but probably one of the most popular characters to play as is a stealth archer with the ability to toy with enemies and not ever reveal their position. However, things are about to get more challenging.

As spotted by PCGamesN, Nexus Mods user Aixcalibur has created and uploaded a new add-on forSkyrimthat overhauls AI behavior, making stealth approaches less of a breeze. According to the description, “Seeking Out Sneaks” is for those who no longer want to “cheese” the enemy by making antagonists inside dungeons smarter and more willing to search for the player longer than in the vanilla game.

The mod is demonstrated in a YouTube video by JustMeMatt, showing the extended period in which an enemy will look for the player. Aixcalibur’s add-on works essentially on its own, though a couple of additional plugins need to be installed beforehand and it is recommended to download the Sneak Tools and Realistic AI Detection, or RAID, mods for a better experience.

ManyTES5fans are already aware of how the standard stealth mechanics in the game are not the best, especially when it comes to enemy AI. There have been other attempts tooverhaul stealth inSkyrim, such as JaySerpa’s mod that allows the player to look inside a keyhole before entering a building.

Despite being well over a decade at this point,Skyrimis still selling well even now. Much of this longevity is down to Bethesda continuing to release newer versions of the 2011 RPG, but it’s also because there are so many dedicated teams and individuals in the modding community that are constantly improving on the game’s formula.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrimis out now on PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
