The Origin of Bond’s Precognition
During the iron rule of the previous regime, the National Unity Party, the Ostanian military commissioned inhumane research that focused on creating highly intelligent animals that could be trained and used for various military missions, codenamed Project .The people involved in this secret projectconducted experiments on various domesticated animals, such as dogs, cats, birds, and even fish. In the name of science, the researchers at Project often abuse those animals, both physically and mentally. Unfortunately for them, the regime changed before they could produce any meaningful results, which eventually led to the disbandment of Project .
Since the researchers no longer had any use for those animals, they decided to throw those animals out. What they don’t realize, however, is the fact that one of those animals had actually developed a precognition ability. It is a big dog with fluffy white fur known at the time simply as “Subject 8”. One thing leads to another, and some of the animals from Project , including subject 8, were purchased by a group of terrorists from the black market. The terrorists intended to use these animals as a courier to transport bombs to assassinate Westalis’ Foreign Minister.
Fortunately, Anya and her parents managed to thwart the terrorist plan. Not only that, thanks to her telepathic ability, Anya quickly found out about subject 8’s precognition ability, which greatly helped in their effort to prevent the assassination attempt. During their short adventure, Anya comes to like subject 8 and asksLoid and Yorto take him in as their pet dog. Once he was accepted as the new member of the Forger family, subject 8 is given the name “Bond”, inspired by Anya’s favorite cartoon shows.
How Bond’s Precognition Works
Before talking about Bond’s precognition ability, it’s important to note that the experiments that he went through also boosted his intelligence to some extent. While he can’t communicate through written words or anything of the sort,Bond can understand human words,emotions, and intentions better than regular dogs. Thanks to this, he can immediately understand the meaning behind the scenes and the images shown by his precognition ability.
Bond’s precognition ability means he can get a glimpse into the future. As mentioned in the previous paragraph, this ability comes in the form of scenes and images that flash in his mind for a split second. There’s no context behind the images that appeared in his mind, but in most cases, the future that he sees has something to do with him or the people that he cares about, such as the Forgers.
Interestingly enough, the future that Bond sees is not set in stone. Depending on what he does, that future can be changed. This is precisely what happens when he seesLoid missing from Anya and Yor’s lifeduring the terrorist bombing attempt. Fortunately, Anya sees the future shown by Bond’s ability through her telepathic power and realizes the gravity of the situation. Thanks to their effort, Loid managed to avoid the bomb trap left by the terrorist group. As a result, another future flashes in Bond’s mind. This time around, the image that he sees is that of Loid, Yor, and Anya welcoming him into the family.

The Limitation of Bond’s Precognition
Although Bond’s precognitive ability seems to be such a great power to have, it has some inherent limitations. First and foremost is his inability to communicate what he sees. So far,Anya is the only onewho can peek into Bond’s mind and see the future that he sees. If Anya is not around, it is up to Bond to figure out how to convey the future that flashes in his mind. This often leads to a comedic situation where Bond is trying hard to prevent the danger that he sees in his mind, while those around him are left dumbfounded over Bond’s sudden outrageous behaviors.
The most crucial limitation, however, is the fact that Bond has no control over when or what is being shown by his ability. He can leisurely walk in a park with Loid and suddenly an image of a burning building would appear in his mind. He has no idea about where the building is, who caused the fire, or when this incident will happen. Since he can’t communicate his thoughts, all he can do is simply frantically run in the most likely direction, hoping Loid will chase after him.
Despite such limitations, however, it’s undeniable that Bond’s precognition ability has been instrumental in saving lives and preventing terrible accidents on multiple occasions. The ability that he gained after such grueling and horrifying experiments can now be used to help other people. But the one thing that makesBond happy more than anything elseis the fact that even without his unique ability, Anya, Loid, and Yor would still love him and consider him an irreplaceable part of their family.
