For all theStar Warsfans out there, here’s some good news and bad news. The good news is that the upcoming spinoffThe Book of Boba Fetthas just finishedfilming its 1st season and is on track to release later this year. The possibly even better news is that another highly anticipated series,Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi, is currently in the middle of production. The bad news is that, as an extension of all this,The Mandalorianhasn’t even started filming its 3rd season yet.

What does this mean? Well, since the focus has been on the two new shows for all this time,The Mandalorianhasn’t really been much of a priority for theStar WarsTV division while they work on their upcoming entries. As a result,The Mandalorianstill has some time before it even moves into production on its new season, with Collider reporting filming could commence at the end of 2021 or early 2022. So fans will have to strap in for the long haul as they wait for what will likely be over a year until they get to see the return of their favorite armor-clad merc, as well as find out how the show willhandle the character of Cara Dune going forward.

In a vacuum, this might seem like an agonizing time of limbo between seasons. But once again, bothThe Book of Boba FettandObi-Wan Kenobiare in active production right now, with the former set to release in December 2021 and the latter looking to drop somewhere in 2022. Plus, aside from all that, fans still have the intriguing animated seriesThe Bad Batchcurrently airing every Friday. So all in all, there’s plenty ofStar Warsto go around, even if there are a few gaps in between. (Hey, look at it this way, imagine telling someone in the ’90s that there are multipleStar Warsseries in development. They’d beas skeptical as Detective Columbo.)

Many fans are curious about whereThe Mandaloriancan go story-wise from where it left off. With Luke Skywalker himself spiriting the young Grogu (a.k.a. Baby Yoda) away to train in the ways of the Force, the show’s biggest unifying element is now gone. This leaves the focus to presumably look toward Bo Katan’s (Katee Sackhoff) quest to regain the Darksaber and, by extension, take back her home planet of Mandalore. Meanwhile,The Book of Boba Fettappears to be a bit of a revenge story, featuring the titular bounty hunter (played by Temuera Morrison) settling old scores from his past with the help of his new ally Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen).

Combine all that with Ewan McGregor’s long-awaitedreturn as Obi-Wan Kenobiin his own self-titled limited series and baby, they’ve got a stew going. Set 10 years afterRevenge of the Sith, his series is still shrouded in mystery, though it will include a number of returning actors such as Joel Edgerton and Bonnie Piesse as Owen and Beru Lars, as well as another high profile return by way of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker.

So yes, there’s still a bit of a wait before any of these shows finally see the light of day. But even though the waiting is the hardest part, it can sure make the inevitable premiere all the sweeter. So sit back, relax, and maybe binge the first 2 seasons ofThe Mandalorianagain in the meantime.

Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fettwill premiere on Disney Plus in December 2021 whileThe Mandalorianseasons 1-2 are now available.
