Star Wars Jedi: Survivoris set to continue the story that began with its 2019 predecessor,Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Set five years after the last game, the upcoming title will see Cal Kestis, hisrestored connection to the Force, and new and old allies alike go on a new adventure in a galaxy where the Empire’s iron grip is tightening even more.
TheStar Wars Jediseries of games has its own set of characters and stories set in theStar Warsuniverse, but it does cross paths with some of the cast found in the main series of films. One of these characters is none other than Darth Vader - Dark Lord of The Sith and apprentice to the Sith Lord Darth Sidious. Vader’s appearance inStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderwas pure fan service but was nevertheless appreciated by players. But shouldStar Wars Jedi: Survivorwant to truly become a unique piece of media, it should keep the famous villain’s role to a minimum.

Respawn Entertainment Has Already Checked The Vader Box For The Franchise
Upon defeating Trilla Suduri, the Second Sister and former Padawan of fellow companion Cere Junda, Cal allows her and Cere a moment to reconcile with each other. Cal and Cere’s words and actions prove enough to bring Trilla back to the light side of the Force.Trilla and Cere’s heartfelt reunion is short-lived, however, when the former is brutally cut down by Darth Vader himself. Cal proves no match for Vader and must therefore escape with Cere from the Fortress Inquisitorious. All the parties involved survive, with Cal and the rest of his team eluding the Galactic Empire and Darth Vader free to fulfill his duties untilStar Wars: Episode 4 - A New Hope.
Vader’s appearance in the Fortress Inquisitorious makes perfect sense when taken into the context of theStar Warsuniverse. The stronghold is located on Nur - the oceanic moon of Mustafar. Mustafar so happens to be where Anakin Skywalker fell to Obi-Wan Kenobi at the end ofStar Wars: Episode 3 - Revenge of The Sith. More importantly, it is also where Darth Vader’s fortress lies. Due to his proximity to Nur, it only makes sense for Vader to go to the Fortress Inquisitorious andeliminate a surviving Jedi.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Should Focus On Its Own Story
Despite Vader’s welcome cameo in the previous game,Star Wars Jedi: Survivorneeds to downplay his role in the upcoming story.Cal’s new adventureshould take priority, and while some cameos make sense, he shouldn’t rely on the mainstays of the franchise. Instead, he should carve out his own identity. Luckily, this seems to be the direction Respawn is taking, and like the Dark Side, it should resist any urge to pull another Vader.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivorlaunches on July 18, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
