It had been 25 years since Bethesda had last provided eager fans with a whole new world for them to explore, but this drought was emphatically broken with the release of their sci-fi titleStarfield, which promised to be bigger than anything they’ve ever produced before. With over 1,000 planets for players to traverse, there is no doubt it has more ground to cover than Bethesda’s other popular franchisesElder ScrollsandFallout.

With so much content to get through, space explorers will need a quick way to move between the planets and star systems inStarfield, which is where the game’s grav jump comes in. In this guide, we’ll explainhow grav jumping worksand provide the basics for long-range space travel.
How To Grav Jump In Starfield
In order for players to start their journey across the countless star systems inStarfield, they will first need to visit the galaxy map. This can be found in the pause menu, by selecting the top-left section which shows the planet they are currently on. From there, players will be directed to an overview of their current planet, but zooming out from this can reveal thecomplete star system map.

Grav jumping is as simple as selecting the star system desired, which will then provide the option to select the planet space explorers are looking for and set the course for the planet. This can only be done, however, to star systems they are indicated as white dots. Any star systems showing as a red dot are inaccessible, which may be due to it being too far away for the ship’s fuel, or a star system on the journey to this particular one is yet to be explored and unlocked. Nonetheless, once astar system and planethave been selected, and a course has been set, players can exit the menu and prepare their ship for the jump.
Preparing A Ship For Grav Jumping
Given a ship has limited energy levels that have to be specifically allocated for the task ahead, players will need to ensure that the power in their ship is channeled towards making their grav jump. On the pilot’s dashboard, there are slots for the threetypes of weapons(Lazer, Ballistic, and Missile) and for the ship’s engine, shield, and grav jump. While a grav jump can be performed with only minimal power allocated to the grav jump section, it is best to maximize the amount of power to ensure the jump is made with greater efficiency.

It is worth noting that a ship’s grav drive can be improved to perform better, which has beencovered in this guide. With a better-performing grav drive, players will be able to travel further without needing to make stops in other star systems along the way. With a greater drive and a bigger fuel tank, the star systems in the far reaches of the galaxy will suddenly seem less out of reach.
