Summary
It seems fair to say thatStarfieldhas had a pretty strange reception. Released back in September,Starfieldreceived some extremely mixed reviews overall, from both critics and general audiences. While some fans loved the Sci-Fi setting, overarching story, integration of new game plus, and the swathe of new gameplay mechanics, many fans felt as thoughStarfieldwas actually a tad disappointing, showing thatBethesda’s usual RPG formulais definitely a bit outdated now.
Regardless of personal opinion,Starfieldhad its fair share of issues when it first launched, and about a week ago, Bethesda announced its first steps to fix those problems. Beginning in February 2024, Bethesda will be updatingStarfieldaround every six weeks or so, including various fixes and additions that range from new features to mod support and a whole slew of other things in between. While just detailing these plans is a great start, fans will need to see it in action before they can get truly excited as there’s still a whole lot riding onStarfield’s shoulders.

Starfield’s DLC Still Needs To Do a Lot
Starfield’s DLC Needs to Fix Some Big Problems
On launch,Starfieldhad a handful of issues that even the most die-hard Bethesda fans couldn’t argue all that much with. An absurdly low carry capacity, a lack of incentives to build Outposts, no form of city maps, and surprisingly barren planets were all just a few of the most prominentissues withStarfieldat launch, and although some are quite minor, they all combined to makeStarfieldfeel a tad unpolished.
Thankfully, these issues aren’t unfixable, andStarfield’s DLC can slowly but surely set things right. InStarfield’s recently announced 2024 roadmap, Bethesda lists a few of the major fixes heading to the game in the coming year. These fixes range from the inclusion of city maps to new traversal methods, including more ship customization options and customizable difficulty settings that let players manually choose their carry capacity, among a slew of other mechanical components. Bethesda has also announced that official mod support will be coming toStarfieldin 2024, though hopefully, the developer doesn’t rely on its community to fix its game.
Starfield’s DLC Needs to Prove the Game Has Legs
Starfieldis already an incredibly dense game. While its main story quest can be blitzed through in around 25 hours,Starfieldhas around 150 hours of side content. But while that’s true,Starfielddoesn’t quite have the same level of replayability thatBethesda’s past RPGshave had. Though the content is definitely there, and its new game plus integration really encourages players to jump back in time and time again,Starfielddoesn’t feel like it has the same legs asSkyrimorFallout 3right now, but its DLC can change that.
With these new fixes,Starfield’s gameplay and universe might feel a bit more engaging to those who might have initially been turned off by the game’s aforementioned issues. Along with those fixes,Starfieldis also set to receive a large-scale expansion in 2024 titled Shattered Space. Hopefully, the one-two-punch of consistent updates and Shattered Space can giveStarfieldthe long-lasting legacy that many fans were hoping it would have from day one, essentially mirroringCyberpunk 2077’s redemption journey, though admittedlyStarfieldisn’t nearly as broken asCyberpunkwas when it first launched.
