Finally revealed yesterday with a stunning teaser,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis officially the next game by Rocksteady. The developers ofArkham Asylum, City,andKnight,fans have been wondering for years what the team would move onto next, especially with theArkhamstoryline not entirely wrapping up at the climax of the trilogy.
As it turns out, fans jumping from theArkhamgames to the next-generation take on theSuicide Squadwill be in luck, with Rocksteady confirming during its panel at the DC FanDome that the new game will take place in the same universe astheBatmantrilogy. Not only that, but it seems the game is classed as a “continuation of the Arkhamverse,” which seems to paint it as more than just a spin-off of the widely-acclaimed story Rocksteady told through its seminal trilogy.

For those who playedArkham Knight,they’ll remember that the studio wasn’t exactly shy about peppering hints and teases towards the wider DC universe. Thugs could be heard talking about Superman candidly, while Metropolis is brought up several times in passing conversations and is even alluded to by Talia Ghul inArkham City.Arkham Originseven saw the introduction of theSuicide Squaditself, with Amanda Waller telling Deathstroke that she was forming a new team of villains. As the game’s creative director Sefton Hill claimed in its post-trailer interview, “a lot of the threads and storylines you’re going to see come to fruition in this game,” so fans who wanted to see what happened to The Caped Crusader and his allies followingKnight’sending should stay tuned. Of course, this is welcome news to many following the announcement that WB Montreal’sGotham Knightswouldn’t be canon to the Arkhamverse. In this world, both Batman and Gordon are allegedly dead, with Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood teaming up to deliver justice to the city’s foes. Reception has been mixed, however, with the game’s decision to move away fromArkham’s combat and adopt an RPG-lite focus being polarizing among fans.
As forSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,it seems as though the game has managed to fare much better than its Bat-family counterpart, with Rocksteady promising it’ll build on the solid gameplay that made theArkhamtrilogy so iconic.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewill be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X in 2022.
