Super Mario Bros. Wonderis a gem in the Nintendo Switch’s library. After so long without a new2D Mariotitle,Wonderdelivered in such a way that left fans speechless and pleasantly surprised, so much so that it’s only right for the journey to be expanded.

Tons of 2DMariogames in the past were fortunate enough to receive paid DLC, such asNew Super Mario Bros. UandNew Super Mario Bros. 2.It almost feels inevitable that Nintendo will add more content toSuper Mario Bros. Wonder.Yet, the gaming giant has not even hinted at the possibility as of this writing. Perhaps this is due to the ongoing rumors of a Switch 2, but the new Mario game is too good for it to pass on DLC.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder’s Eccentricity Makes It A Breeding Ground For New Ideas

Nintendo took a lot of risks when it came to developingSuper Mario Bros. Wonder, least of all was making a 2D game in 2023.Wonderis also the first title in the series where actorCharles Martinet is not present to voice the iconic character, symbolic of how the game changes the franchise. Despite the bittersweet nature of this fact, this only makes the case for DLC stronger.

Mario Wonderhas such a fun game designthat it shouldn’t just end with the base title. From the first time the player consumes the Elephant Mario power-up to the Wonder Flower possessing Piranha Plants and them bursting into song, it’s clear there are no creative limits. In DLC, this creativity could allow developers more innovative freedom when creating new levels.

A Chance To Make More Mario Characters Playable

Super Mario Bros. Wonderhas eight playable characters (excluding color variations of Toad and Yoshi), by far the most in any 2DMariogame. Besides Yoshi and Nabbit, who can’t be damaged by enemies or use power-ups, they all play identically. While this disappointed some fans who were hoping for the same character variation that existed inSuper Mario 3D World, this aspect of the game allowed Nintendo to include so many members of theMariouniverse. On this note, potentialDLC forSuper Mario Bros. Wondercould mean that other characterscould get a chance to jump down the iconic flagpole. It could be hilarious, yet refreshing to see characters such as Wario, Waluigi, Birdo, or even Petey Piranha join the world of 2D side-scrollers.

The New Badge Mechanic

The badge mechanic ofSuper Mario Bros. Wonderis one of the more unique additions to the franchise, as it allows the player to change a character’s ability before the start of any level. Examples include equipping a Parachute Cap for gliding or a Grappling Vine that can grab walls. It essentially makes up for the standardization of all the characters in the game and has the power to make every level feel more distinct. With the introduction of DLC, not only could more badges be introduced, but new levels could be specifically designed to complement the ones that already exist.

Ultimately,Super Mario Bros. Wonderand DLC would only enhance it even more, as it has plenty of room to grow by adding to any of the above, while also adding new levels to the game. A whole new region would be great to explore inSuper Mario Bros. WonderDLC, but whether that happens or not remains to be seen.
