The newSonicmovie has been creating waves recently after the movie had tofully reconstruct the character. After several big changes and even a few reshoots, the movie is back on schedule and earlier this weekend the officialSonic The HedgehogTwitter page tweeted out a new trailer. In the tweet which tagged Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson a trailer was included asSonicproclaims “What year is it? Is The Rock president?”
The Rock, who is widely known for his smash hit movies, wrestling career, andeven a short stint in gaming, saw the tweet mention and was beside himself. The Rock used to play Sonic while he was in college and hearing his name on the trailer made the 6' 5" man of muscle speechless. “Life can be so damn wildly unpredictable and surreal at times,” he tweeted with mind-blown emoji.

Ben Schwartz, the voice of theSonicthe Speed Demon and recently in the news for theFortniteStar Wars event where he appeared alongside J.J. Abrams, also got wind of The Rock’s tweet. Sharing in on the excitement, Schwartz joked that he was going to get the team to digitally add a “turtle neck, gold chain, and fanny pack,” on toSonic. The outfit was one The Rock shared years ago mocking his own fashion choices.
The Rock, like many others, enjoyed the fast-paced gameplay of the originalSonic the Hedgehogseries. There have been several variations of the game including the most recentMario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.However, the most recent remake utilizing 3D platforming wasSonic ForcesandSonic Maniawhich mixed three-dimensional landscapes and platform gaming.
Therewas arumor thatSonic the Hedgehogwould make a surprise appearance at the 2019 Game Awardsearlier this week, where several fans hopped for a new game. Fan theorized there may be an update or brand new game announced Sega confirmed a new game back in March at SXSW. However, there was no game announcement much to many gamers' chagrin.
The movie appears to be the only thing in store for the Blue Blur, but with itwill be tons ofSonicmerchandise and gear. It is possible that during the release of the movie a new game will be announced sometime in 2020, but as of now, fans will just have to enjoy previously released console and arcade games.
