The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomhas been out for quite a while. Particularly, there are those who got a lot of mileage out of the downloadable content for the game’s predecessor,Breath of the Wild, who want the latestLegend of Zeldatitle to get the same treatment. Unfortunately,Nintendo has tempered expectations over that possibility.

As part of the DLC forBreath of the Wild, Nintendo added 16 new Shrines for players to uncover across Hyrule. AlthoughTears of the Kingdommay not get any DLC, there’s a lot that could be added to the game with the addition of DLC shrines. Here’s what fans could anticipate if Nintendo changed their minds and added new Shrines toTears of the Kingdom.
6They Could Span The Entire Map
InBreath of the Wild’s DLC, the sixteen new Shrines are scattered all across the map of Hyrule, from the Great Plateau to the Gerudo desert. This allowed players to have to search far and wide to uncover each of these Shrines, which by the time the DLC is accessible after the main storyline, players have already become incredibly familiar with the territory.
However, thanks tothe addition of Sky Islands inTears of the Kingdom, which expanded the discoveries to be made in Hyrule, Nintendo could also make all the new DLC Shrines available there. This would also give fans a purpose to keep exploring what the Sky Islands have to offer, which would be a huge benefit ofTears of the Kingdomgetting DLC.
5They Could Be Harder To Get Into
Part of the fun of discovering new Shrines inBreath of the Wildwas fulfilling the requirements to unlock them. Since the Shrines weren’t in the original game, they had to be uncovered or revealed by players, often by completing goals likedefeating a nearby encampment of enemies, solving a puzzle, or completing a challenge.

InTears of the Kingdom, this could have been the case for DLC Shrines, too. Unlocking them would’ve required some pretty difficult challenges, especially considering all the new ways for the difficulty to be ramped up in the new game. They might’ve had to get creative with Zonai devices to unlock them, which definitely requires some brainy thinking.
4The Hardest Shrines
As with the DLC Shrines fromBreath of the Wild, the puzzles inside shouldn’t be easy-going once Link finally makes it in. Though there are many Shrines in the base game ofTears of the Kingdomthat simply offer rewards for finding them, the DLC Shrines could be much harder than even the most challenging ones in the main story.
There are many ways DLC Shrines could challenge players, even those who have already completedTears of the Kingdom. Some of them could be a Major Test of Strength,pittingTOTKplayers against incredibly difficult Soldier Construct. Others could just be incredibly intricate puzzles with numerous death traps involving pits, spikes, or fire.
3The Sages Could Help
InTears of the Kingdom, players get toassemble a small army of Sages, who will accompany them on their adventures and make use of special abilities. As it stands, players don’t have access to Sages during Shrines, but this could be changed via downloadable content. Players might have to use the Sages' abilities to complete Shrine puzzles.
Some of these puzzles could take inspiration from the dungeons that already make use of Sages. For instance, Tulin could be used to create wind gusts and power devices, while Riju’s lightning ability can take care of numerous Soldier Constructs at once. Players might even have fun solving a puzzle alongside Mineru’s Construct.
2New Zonai Devices Mean New Solutions
One thing players definitely wanted fromTears of the KingdomDLC was the introduction of new Zonai devices. In the base game, there are plenty of Zonai devices players can make use of, from wheels to hot air balloons and fans. Many of them are also made available in Shrines andare used to solve puzzles, such as batteries or springs.

If Nintendo ends up changing its mind and makes DLC forTears of the Kingdom, the addition of new Zonai devices would be a great addition. Furthermore, making them the centerpieces of new Shrines would be a great way to teach players all the different ways they can use the new Zonai devices. Some ideas could include an elevator platform, a boat, or a cannon.
1Changes To The Depths
InTears of the Kingdom, there are over 150 Shrines of Light to discover in the base game, and those are just in the overworld of Hyrule. There’s alsoan entire underground area known as the Depths, which is just as large as Hyrule but can be quite dark and treacherous. Instead of Shrines, the Depths have something else to discover.
Parallel to every Shrine in the overworld, there are Lightroots in the Depths which illuminate large areas of the map. However, if new Shrines were to be added, players would likely also be able to uncover new Lightroots in the Depths. Or, perhaps there could be something more exciting waiting for those who like exploring the Depths.
