The Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs DLC forTotal War: Warhammer 3has been announced with a spring release date and trailer. This expansion has been in the making for over a year, as evidenced by theChaos Dwarf voice files thatTotal War: Warhammer 3dataminers foundshortly after the popular RTS released on PC back in February 2022.

Total War: Warhammer 3has been enjoying a fairly steady influx of DLC ever since its debut. The Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs will be its fourth expansion, after Ogre Kingdoms, Champions of Chaos, and Blood for the Blood God. Creative Assembly and Sega started teasing the upcoming DLC around the game’s first anniversary, so its arrival was fairly widely anticipated, with even this long-awaited announcement jokingly referring to it as an “‘honestly not really that secret’ secret.”

Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs will launch as part of theTotal War: Warhammer 3update 3.0 which is scheduled to release on April 13. The DLC can currently be pre-ordered from the game’s official storefront at $22.49, 10% down its regular price. Much like its name implies, Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs adds the titular dwarven alliance to the ever-growinglist ofTotal War: Warhammer 3factions. The Chaos Dwarfs will be introduced to the game along with three of their Legendary Lords, Zhatan the Black, Drazhoath the Ashen, and Astaragoth Ironhand, and one Legendary Hero in the form of Gorduz Backstabber.

This record number of new playable heroes is something Creative Assembly plans to maintain with future expansions, the developer said as part of its latest announcement. It thus indirectly confirmed that Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs won’t be the final piece of DLC for the game, even though some fans are already speculating aboutwhat’s next for theTotal Warfranchise. As for the incoming cast of Legendary Heroes, they will be recruitable by all lords in any pack, which the developer hopes will deliver more tactical options and benefit the overall gameplay variety.

Total War: Warhammer 3isn’t a cross-buy title, but it does allow cross-play between its Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store versions. The base experience is also available via Xbox Game Pass and lets players purchase additional DLC like Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs via Microsoft Store. While its cross-play support allows fans to have their choice of a storefront be primarily driven by which platform is offering the best price, the Steam version ofTotal War: Warhammer 3does offer the advantage of Steam Workshop integration, meaning it’s the easiest one to mod.

Between the incoming arrival of Forge of the Chaos Dwarfs and the developer’s indirect confirmation that more DLC is on the horizon,Total War: Warhammer 3appears to be going from strength to strength. As such, it remains a fairly attractive proposition for both RTS andTotal Warfans, ademographic that also includesThe Witcherstar Henry Cavill.
