ADead Spaceremake player recently shared a glimpse of the drops they received from crates in the horror game’s final boss fight, receiving almost nothing but stasis packs. The unfortunate reality of having semi-random item drops in a game likeDead Spaceis that some players will have a harder time than others. There’s no worse feeling, though, than reaching a game’s final boss and realizing there may not be enough ammo to win the fight.
The2023 remake ofDead Spaceis every bit as much of a survival horror game as the original 2013 version. That means that players are limited regarding the amount of ammo and resources they are provided. WhileDead Spacewill theoretically never leave players without any resources to progress, the randomness of item drops can make some parts of the game easier than others. The final boss fight ofDead Spaceis a notorious example of players' frustrations.

A post made to theDead Spacesubreddit titled “Final battle and all the crates gave me stasis pods” provides a visual reference for players' frustrations. The post features an image of theDead Spaceplayer’s inventory, with the top two rows nearly entirely full of stasis pack items. These items will refill Isaac’s stasis power, which can be extremely useful throughout most of the game. In the final battle, however, the usefulness of stasis is extremely limited.
The issue is that thefinal battle inDead Spacedoesn’t provide players with ammo directly. Instead, over a dozen crates are spread across the boss fight’s arena. It’s unclear if there’s an issue with these crates specifically or if it’s crates in general, but manyDead Spaceremake players share similar stories regarding stasis packs dropping when players badly need ammo.
Some believe thatDead Space’s item propagation AI is designed to ensure players are constantly in an ammo-starved state. If players have a lot of ammo, then ammo is less likely to drop from crates. Players then take all of their ammo with them to the final boss, leading to the crates dropping very little ammo. That’s just one theory, though.
In the end,Dead Spaceis a survival horror gameand the lack of ammo from crates can be seen as one final frustration for players to overcome. It’s still silly to see but hopefully doesn’t ruin anyone’s overall experience in the fight or the broader game. It does make a great opportunity to commiserate with otherDead Spaceplayers, though.
Dead Spaceis available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
