It’s no secret thatDestiny 2has been a great success forBungieover the course of its six-year lifespan, although this was not always the case. The first year of the game was met by a massive content drought that wasn’t really solved by the first two expansions inDestiny 2, Curse of Osiris and Warmind, with the state of the game being almost critical in terms of concurrent players and general opinions. The game managed to massively recover with a gradual and consistently more focused live-service approach, which is one of the main reasons behindSony’s acquisition of Bungie, as the company wants its new subsidiary to work alongside other studios - and this might show as early as the May 24 PS Showcase.

There is no clear indication about what sort of games will make the cut in the May 24 PlayStation Showcase and whether there will be projects where Bungie aided development, but Bungie itself might have something to show. The studio has announced plans for new IPs coming as early as 2025, and then a recentDestiny 2survey shared with some players might indicate that the saga is not ending anytime soon.

Why The May 24 PS Showcase is Good News for Destiny 2 Fans and Bungie

Destiny 2is one of those rare success stories of a game that launched in a semi-broken state and then found glory in time, but Bungie has also been working on something else behind the scenes. Known as “Matter,” which could be Bungie’s first new IP afterDestiny, has been in development for a while now, and it would only make sense for the studio to reveal it now at theMay 24 PS Showcaseto build hype ahead of its release, presumably in 2025. While this is just speculation, it’s likely that Sony will want to show what the seeds of its acquisition are blossoming into.

Not only that, but an increasingly high number ofDestiny 2veteran developers have announced that they were moving away fromBungie’s iconic looter-shooter onto different projects. The only one that the company has officially announced is indeedMatter, and players were quick to make the connection. There are various rumors surrounding this game, from it being a big RPG to it being a PvP-focused game, and since both of these traits are common toDestiny 2, it’s likely that players will feel at home within this new IP if anything.

Another plausible candidate to make an appearance among the manygames at the May 24 PlayStation Showcasecould be Bungie’s rumored mobile game, which could then also become available on consoles, much like titles the caliber ofGenshin Impact. This seems more likely by the day, too, as Bungie recently shared a survey with someDestiny 2players asking whether they would play anotherDestinygame were it to be released. This wasn’t necessarily the entire scope of the survey, but it does make one wonder if a spin-off is indeed around the corner - possibly showing its face as early as next week.

Even if Bungie doesn’t share news regarding its own project, it’s not impossible thatDestiny 2fans will get to see the impact of the studio on other PlayStation titles, with one of the most palpable candidates being Naughty Dog’sThe Last of Us Multiplayer. Based on what Naughty Dog shared about the game, it could not only show up at the May 24 Showcase, but it could very well turn out to be a live-service title - one of those thatBungiehas been helping with since the acquisition. Either way, there’s a good chance thatDestiny 2playerswill see something they like on May 24.
