A hugely popular post on Twitter has revealed just how powerful the Xbox Series X is compared to the games consoles that were available in the early 2000s. Microsoft has justofficially confirmed the Xbox Series X specs, including that it will have four times the power of the Xbox One.
On Twitter, designer and game developer Steve Kim did the math and revealed that oneXbox Series Xis as powerful as 1,276.5 Nintendo GameCubes duct taped together. If the GameCubes were all able to work together, they would be able to provide 11.99 teraflops of power, which is just 0.001 teraflop less than the Xbox Series X. Many are surprised to see how far gaming technology has come in the nearly 19 years since the GameCube was released.

Kim’s tweet has prompted a few jokes from gamers such as popular Twitter user 9 VOLT, who said that they “finally understand how powerful the Xbox Series X is” and “thank you for putting it in terms I can understand.” This is in comparison to Microsoft’s use of the word teraflops which few fully get. The official Xbox Twitter had to post another tweet telling fanswhat a teraflop isafter it announced the Xbox Series X specs, suggesting that fans would like to be told the information without using the word teraflops or using images of GameCube’s duct taped together.
The GameCube tweet isn’t the only post on Twitter that has some fans calling the Xbox Series X an incredibly powerful console. In January, when it was only rumored that the Xbox Series X would have 12 teraflops, a tweet from HTC’s product marketing boss Shen Ye said that the console has nearlyas many teraflops as the IBM ASCI White, which was released 20 years ago.
The IBM ASCI White also cost $110 million. Microsoft hasn’t announced theXbox Series X pricebut analysts expect it to cost $500 or less. That would make it 220,000% cheaper than the computer from 20 years ago, which makes it seems very affordable.
Fans may be excited about the Xbox Series X specs and how much more powerful it is than a GameCube, but Microsoft will have to show them what the console can do. Games likeCyberpunk 2077will be available on the Xbox Series XandHellblade 2: Senua’s Sagahas also been confirmed. However, fans may need to see more games than that to be able to see what 12 teraflops can do.
