Days after the release of the third official trailer forThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo gave players a glimpse of what to expect when the game is booted up for the first time. The preview from Nintendo touched upon what players can create, discover, and explore as they see how the lands and skies of Hyrule have changed onceTears of the Kingdomlaunches.
From the start, players will see that the land of Hyrule has changed inthe short time sinceBreath of the Wild, as the world began to heal after Link, Zelda, and their companions emerged victorious over Calamity Ganon. However, evil never truly rests, as proven by Nintendo showing two trailers that heralded the return of Ganondorf, theZeldaseries' iconic antagonist. Compared to the start ofBreath of the Wild, which saw Link awaken after 100 years of slumber in a dark shrine within the Great Plateau, the start ofTears of the Kingdomwill be completely different from before.

On the officialTears of the Kingdomwebsite, Nintendo revealed that Link will begin his next adventure on one of the islands that appeared over the skies of Hyrule after the events ofBreath of the Wild. The islands were first explored in a gameplay video hosted by Nintendo general manager Eiji Aonuma. In the video, Aonuma gave viewers a short glimpse of what has changed in Hyrule, anddemonstrated Link’s new abilitiessuch as Ultrahand and Fuse to highlight what players can create. Once Link gets some practice in with his new abilities, Nintendo stated that the Hero of Hyrule will return to the surface to explore and figure out what is going on across the land in the wake of Ganondorf’s return.
Though theTears of the Kingdomwebsite stated that Link will be exploring one of the sky islands to begin the game, it did not state how he and Zelda became separated once again. The search for Zelda, which is one of the recurring themes of the series, will once again be prominent inTears of the Kingdom. Though speculation remains as tothe whereabouts of princess Zelda, only time will tell what will come to pass as Link explores and scours the lands and skies of Hyrule.
As the release ofTears of the Kingdomdraws closer, it is clear Nintendo has chosen to leave some mysteries behind for players to solve. As such, it will fall to players to explore the far corners of Hyrule, discover what Link and Zelda can do tofight back against Ganondorf, and get creative with Link’s new abilities in the latest entry of theZeldaseries.
